KAVOSSY Franklin's decision to seek Australian citizenship wasn't made overnight.

Wollongong's import guard has played with four clubs and is in the final season of a two-year contract.

He wants to stay with the Hawks and raise his son Landon with wife Latasha in Australia.

"I know the right people to talk to (about citizenship) now," Franklin said.

"The last two years I was trying to get it done, and everybody was saying, 'Go speak to this person, go speak to that person', and I got sick and tired of the run-around. Now I know the right people to go to."

While Franklin is keen to become an Aussie, fellow Hawks import Dusty Rychart is only four months away from officially gaining citizenship.

Rychart is on a two-year deal and will play as an Australian next season, allowing the Hawks to sign a new import if the club can afford it.
